For families coordinating from near or far

Arranging smart-home help for a parent in Sussex County

You may know what would make your parent's day easier, but live too far away to install it or explain the apps in person. EasyStreet Smart Homes provides local installation, setup and patient instruction for families with a parent or relative in Sussex County, Delaware.

Start with a free phone call with owner Brian Wetherill. You can coordinate from wherever you live, while your relative stays involved in decisions about their home.

Start with the task they want to make easier

A useful setup might mean entering through the front door without searching for keys, seeing who rang the doorbell, or having a light turn on along a nighttime path. You do not need to automate the whole house.

Tell Brian what your relative finds inconvenient and what they already feel comfortable using. A keypad or a simple lighting routine may be a better fit than another app. Existing devices can be considered before recommending new equipment.

What to gather before the call

It helps to know the town where the home is located, the change your relative wants, whether the home has internet and Wi-Fi, and which phones or smart-home devices are already in use.

For a lock or doorbell, clear photos of the existing hardware and surrounding door area can help answer installation questions. Leave access codes and private account information out of the photos. You do not need to identify wiring or buy equipment before we talk.

If something cannot be determined by phone or photos, Brian will discuss whether an in-home consultation is needed before proceeding.

Decide together who will use what

Your relative's comfort comes first. Discuss camera placement, notifications and family access with the person living in the home. We confirm the functions you need before choosing equipment; available access depends on the device and its account permissions.

Part of planning is deciding whose account the equipment will use and which family members need supported access. Do not email passwords or assume that everyone needs to share one login.

Plan the installation around the people using it

Before setting a date, agree who will provide access to the home and who needs to be present for setup and instruction. Tell Brian if a family member will coordinate remotely or if someone will help your relative practice afterward.

You receive an estimate for the agreed equipment and installation. An equipment deposit is required before devices are purchased. Any relevant manufacturer subscription costs are discussed before you decide.

Think about everyday upkeep before choosing equipment

Connected features generally depend on reliable home internet and Wi-Fi. Battery-powered devices also need someone who can manage charging or battery replacement. During planning, discuss who will handle those tasks and whether that arrangement is practical for your family.

A video doorbell or smart lock can make particular tasks easier. It does not replace emergency assistance, caregiving or regular contact with your relative.

Installation includes learning how to use it

Brian installs and configures the agreed devices, helps set up supported family access, and teaches your relative in person at their pace. You receive an installation update even if you cannot be there.

During the handoff, ask to practice the everyday tasks that matter: using the keypad, answering a doorbell notification or operating the chosen lighting controls. Ask about any ongoing maintenance and what to do if the internet is unavailable. These details depend on the equipment selected.

Local installation, wherever your family lives

EasyStreet serves Bridgeville, Seaford, Georgetown, Lewes, Rehoboth Beach, Bethany Beach and nearby Sussex County communities. If you are unsure whether the home is in the service area, call and ask.

Tell Brian where your relative lives and what you would like to make easier. We will start with a phone conversation and work out the next step together.
